Does anyone else have sleep problems associated with their headaches
/migraines? I have insomnia frequently, & sometimes it results in no
particular problem, but other times I get a major pain incident as a
result. I take a calcium & magnesium supplement before bed, then if
that doesn't help, I take a homeopathic remedy with valerian for
sleep. Tonight, as is typical of many nights, nothing I've taken has
helped, & I'm cruising this board instead of SLEEPING! Also I've tried
an over-the-counter health food store supplement that contains kava
kava root, but that doesn't always help either (like tonight). I do
not want to take Rx's for this problem if at all possible, (been
there, done that, wasn't a good experience), but I sure would
appreciate hearing others' experiences with this problem, &
especially their solutions. Thanks in advance.

I have had 2 mini strokes as a result of my blood presssure going to high. Normally low. I have been to so many Drs and had so many dirty looks from er Drs and such. I have found a wonderful pain management Dr as a result of Skip Bakers web sight. He is very understand and goes in depth to make sure I undersand what he is telling me. He is now scheduling me for lidocaine iv test. Don't know what this will do but I told him I would try it. Anything to help with this pain. Wish me luck, and Thanks for all your support. Carolyn

Hello everyone,
I am real happy to hear that I am not alone. I have suffered from migraines since I was 12 yrs old. During the last 4 yrs they have become real bad. I have had 2 severe migraine attacks. I just cried in pain, didn't want to go to the hospital. I don't like to take anything...I usually bang my head against a wall or lay flat on the floor (it's good pressure for the skull).
I have been to the doctor's countless times and they say the same thing. Too prevent your migraines, try to find the triggers. I was given a Migraine Diary which has been real helpful because I found many patterns. I used to eat alot of subs with cold cut meats and every time I would start with a mild migraine that soon became a severe one. I now stay away from all processed meats, MSG, chocolate and nuts. Other factors were the weather changes. You can't control that. My doctor prescribed to me medication called Fiornial which has helped me. I just took a caplet 3 hrs ago and slept my migraine off. This medication makes you drowsy. The only thing is I don't want to become hooked on this medication since I am already immuned to Tylenol and Advil.
I don't know if this happened to any of you, but during the last 3 months I have experienced my migraines in my left eye only. There is severe pain right behind the eye bone and around the whole eyeball. Then the pain begins at the base of my neck and behind my left ear. It really bothers me and I had to leave work early a few times because it is unbearable. I am unable to look at the computer. I am thinking about taking the GINGKO BILOBA that someone mentioned earlier.
Take care and I hope one day we will no longer suffer from this horrible pain.

Finally after a long search for people suffering from these horrible migraine headaches, i stumbled on Rhonda's page. Never realized how many people suffer from migraines. Some of you are daily sufferers and for the life of me i truly dont know how you cope. I get my migraines on average of twice a month and of course one is definetly hormonal...the other....well who knows. Can anyone tell me the relationship between migraine sufferers and Prozac? This is totally new to me. I was put on Imitrex and have been using it for the past year.
It has worked like a charm until this month. I was bedridden for two days and took Imitrex to aspirin to tylenol with codeine. Nausea and vomitting with light sensitivity and of course noise intolerance accompanied this dear migraine.
Well its back to see the doctor in case this occurs again...i want to be prepared.
I would love to hear from anyone who can give me some information on Prozac.
Catch you all later.

A special thanks to Dianna in New Port Richey, Florida for the tip
about the article on migrainers in the September 1998 issue of ELLE.
I rushed right out and bought a copy and I too was very impressed
with the article. If anyone you know has a "problem" with your
migraines have him or her read that article. It is indeed great.
Just want to mention too that it seems like the moon has changed or
something around here. Everyone that I know that has migraine
headaches "I REPEAT EVERYONE" has had one or two migraines the last
few days. One of my friends is an RN in the local er and she says
it's been unreal how many migraine patients they've seen. Take care
and have a good day.

This site is so wonderful to read and remind each of us that we are not in this alone. My headaches started after a car accident in 1990, my doctor's said that it was just a coincidence that they started then and that I was always prone and was going to get them anyway. Of course this enabled the insurance companies to dimiss them as not being a result of the accident and now the financial responsibilty relies with me to pay for doctor's visits and meds. I see through other people's entries that their headaches started or worsen because of some kind of head trauma it makes me feel better to know that it has been a triger for others. I feel this is just another way that the "some" of the medical profession makes us feel that we are hypocondriacs and only out for money. I miss days of work and I miss out on family functions because of these headaches. I get so tired of being dimissed as being over emotional and being an attention seeker. I think that migraines should be looked at as a disability in some cases because they are not just a "headache" to those of us who get them. I have been fortunate this summer to only have had 4 headaches and did not have to go to the dreaded "ER". In reponse to the questions on Prozac I have not taken them in relation to my headaches but I have taken it in the past for depression. I did not suffer any side effects and I did not feel that different when I took it. What it did do for me was help me take control of my emotions. Under the right doctor the dosages can be adjusted to make it work for you. I don't take it anymore instead I take Kloniepin which is something I take when I need it and not something that has to be taken every day. Well, thanks for letting me vent. I wish everyone a pain free weekend. Take Care!
